As more and more businesses restrict or limit smoking, I can't help but think back to when I was a child. Just a mere 30 years ago, I remember going to a hospital to visit a friend, the doctors and patients were smoking. I remember seeing a doctor come into a room with a cigarette. Although we know that smoking causes medical problems, so many Americans still smoke.

Today when you think back, this seems crazy.

About 5 years ago, businesses started banning smoking indoors, so all the smokers go outside to smoke. As you walk into a building, you must pass through this cloud of second hand smoke.

Today there are so many ways to give up smoking, including seminars, hypnosis, pills, patches, nicotine gum and even in-patient programs.

How about obesity? Today more and more Americans are over-weight. Look at the weight loss programs, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig and Nutra-Systems. Last year alone, weight loss companies took in a whopping 46 billion dollars. That is "Billion" with a capital B.

What are these companies, nothing more than sophisticated coaching organizations. I have always said that AA is the worlds best coaching organization, even though they don't claim to be a coaching organization.

In 10 years, we will look back and wonder why we allowed ourselves to become overweight.

Looking ahead, more and more individuals will be focusing on stress and a mind/body connection. Is it time that coaches capitalize on this concept. Who is better trained to work with individuals than a life coach.
